'HOMOEOPATHY AT WELLIE LEVEL' Teaching
the responsible use of homoeopathy on the farm Why
not add a new tool to your Farm Management Strategy?
When
is comes to animal health there is a general consensus that prevention is better
than cure, that good animal management and nipping problems in the bud are the
key to success. The appropriate use of homoeopathy does both of these; the
drawback is that it’s not easy to know exactly what is appropriate, unless you
are lucky enough to have a homoeopathic vet near at hand. “Homoeopathy
at Wellie Level” is a new course, designed to help farmers understood the
concept of homoeopathy and how to use it on their own farm. The number of
students is kept very small, and the course takes the beginner through the
initial stages of first aid and routine farm use, as well as introducing the art
of remedy selection for the sick animal. The course
coordinator, Chris Lees, a teacher and agriculturalist, has found a nucleus of
highly skilled homoeopathic vets and homoeopaths, all with farm experience, to
instruct on the course. This in itself was a challenge as there are only
about ten qualified homoeopathic farm animal vets in the country, all of them
very busy and much sought after. Introductory
days often only tell the farmer about homoeopathy, rather than how to do it, and
farmers can come away overwhelmed. To overcome this problem the new course
is held on four separate days, giving students two or three weeks between each
day to absorb and practice what they have learnt. Telephone backup is
available, and learning is reinforced by notes and cassette recordings. The cost is £300.00 for
four learning days, (10.00 am – 4.00pm), and
includes tuition, telephone support, course notes, audiotapes and assessment. Courses
can be arranged around the country for anyone offering a venue and 15 students. Homoeopathic
remedies are not sold for specific illnesses. The success of homoeopathic
treatment depends entirely on the skill of the proscriber. The
course gives students the tools to feel competent and confident in treating
their own animals homoeopathically. It is not presented as a cure-all, but
as an additional skill, and an appropriate one for any farmer, organic or
conventional. Carefully applied, homoeopathy can offer first aid and
emergency, as well as routine treatment, improve overall heard health and reduce
antibiotic usage, becoming an invaluable addition to the overall management
strategy. To

BORAX 30Borax - Many believe Borax provides an effective preventative against Foot and Mouth Disease and other animal ailments. The following was sent to me by John Gouriet. "Borax provides a natural organic protection against the Foot & Mouth virus. Animals may still become carriers but apparently only for an average of 3-4 days, and do not seem to display any symptoms or lose condition, but quickly recover. A beneficial side-effect of Borax is that milk yields tend to improve and condition is maintained. The likelihood of spreading the virus within herds or to adjoining farms, is therefore greatly reduced. Suppliers of Boraxv are Ainsworths, of 9 New Cavendish Street, London W1 Tel: 01207-935-5330 or 01271-342-077 Geoff Durgis is their national agent. They cannot guarantee complete protection, nor do they advertise this product as the answer to Foot & Mouth. However many thousands of farmers are now using Borax as a preventative. Like us, they take the view that anything is worth trying, especially a remedy that has proved so effective in the past and in order to halt the present policy of indiscriminate mass slaughter. It is also understood there is a farm in Cumbria, right in the middle of an infected area, that has so far escaped. It is using Borax 30. Weleda of Ilkeston Tel: 0115-944- 8200 also supply Borax. A prescription is not required. During the last major outbreak of Foot & Mouth in 1967, anecdotal evidence indicates that those farms using Borax escaped, even when their neighbours were infected with this highly contagious disease. However no official clinical tests were ever conducted on the efficacy of homeopathic Borax. MAFF/DEFRA is thus able to claim that, because this remedy has not been officially approved it cannot be recommended. Vets licensed by MAFF have been instructed not to promote any prophylactic medical measures, homeopathic or otherwise. Any attempt to conceal or treat clinical symptoms of notifiable diseases in livestock is illegal. However MAFF having positively discouraged the use of Borax, now confirm that it is legal to give homeopathic preventatives to uninfected livestock. Recommended Dosage: 5mls of Borax 30 per day per normal water trough for three days followed by 5mls on alternate days for a further ten days, making a total of 40mls per trough. As the present virus is so virulent, it is recommended that water treatment should continue on alternate days or at least twice a week at 5mls per trough until the outbreak subsides. |

Homeopathic FMD Prevention We
cannot place the current crisis in context without a few words about the
background to the use of homeopathy as part of good husbandry practice. Over the last decade Ainsworths has educated over 5000 UK farmers in the use of homeopathic medicines for their animals. This initiative was largely motivated by the desire of Organic farmers to use a rational alternative to drugs, and thereby eliminate residues. Since then many outside the small organic group have borne witness to the unique benefits that homeopathy has brought them. The most obvious attractions are:
One vital fact distinction between homeopathy and conventional medicine is consistency. Homeopathy operates by a set of principles which have remained unchanged for two centuries whilst new ideas arrive almost daily in conventional medicine. In the case of prevention we have followed the principles of homeopathy precisely. Preventative regimes have been used for a very wide number of common cattle, sheep and pig diseases. Examples include; Orf, Mastitis, Pneumonias, Viral Scours, Leptospirosis and BVD. Hence the current episode of FMD was not exceptional in requiring a remedy. Farmers who used Borax 30 in 1967 reported their success and requested supplies. Others who began using the same remedy have reported that aside from staving off the condition they have realized the benefits. Included amongst there are an increase in milk yield, improvement in the quality of the milk and resolution of existing foot problems and lameness in herds of cattle and flocks of sheep. The dosage used has been 10ml per trough daily for three days, then twice weekly for three weeks then once weekly for the duration of the epidemic. With sheep the 10ml is added to a litre of water in a house plant sprayer and given on the nose as the sheep pass a race or gate. The cost of Borax 30 is £25.00 for 100 ml, £40.00 for 200ml, £57.00 for 300ml, £67.00 for 500ml and £110.00 for 1 litre. More information can be obtained
